UPDATE: The following is a news story from 2006. It was an unfortunate situation but does not represent the town of Frankfort, IL. If you’re interested in buying or selling a Frankfort home, be sure to check out the Frankfort homes page which will give you many links and a lot of information on this popular village.
This is a true case of not being able to judge a book by its cover. The home at 22127 Clary Sage Drive in Frankfort, Illinois, looks like a very nice brick home from the photos shown in the Daily Southtown newspaper. In fact, the owners won a Christmas decorating contest a couple of years back.
Now the Frankfort home has been nicknamed the “squalor” house. Although it had some high-end decor and furniture, the house was littered with dirty clothing, garbage, feces, urine and blood. Drugs were found within the reach of the children. Four children and a dog were removed from the home and the parent’s custody when their living conditions were investigated.
For some reason, someone in the home had ordered new carpet. When the installers arrived they were turned away by the wife’s father. They noticed some brown liquid oozing from the garage door and they called police.
The children are currently staying with grandparents, although the grandfather recently suffered a stroke. The owner of the home and father of the children told the court stories about his employment that did not check out. Also, it seems the couple were in deep financial trouble with a foreclosure looming on the home among other past due bills.
The block of Clary Sage Dr. is getting a lot more traffic than usual with gawkers driving by the now infamous home. Of course, we wish the children and dog get taken care of as they are the unfortunate victims of this messy situation.
