Lemont Homes, Lifestyle & Real Estate

Welcome to the Lemont homes and real estate neighborhood page. Lemont, IL is a popular Chicago suburb with a rich history and a very quaint downtown area featuring antique stores, bars and restaurants.  Lemont real estate offers a mix of older and historic homes to newer construction, with a selection of single family homes, condos and townhomes.

I was first introduced to Lemont, Illinois for a few of its business establishments in the old-fashioned downtown area.  The Stonehouse Pub is the current resident of 103 Stephen St.  There have been many different restaurants at this address and I’ve dined at all of them.  H & H Family Restaurant at 116-118 Stephen St., is a Mexican themed dining experience that has been around for many years.  They have new competition with Frontstreet Cantina, located in a newer development at 319 Front St.  Nick’s Tavern at 221 Main St. is famous for their huge hamburgers.  I miss the Christmas Inn Restaurant with it’s year-round Christmas decorations, including a constantly moving train, most of it hanging from the ceiling.  I was introduced to Peppermint Patty drinks there (hot chocolate with Peppermint Schnapps & whipped cream).  A friend’s husband did antique shows (he was the auctioneer), and with my love of antiques I had a great time helping them out with their shows, several held in Lemont antique shops.

Lemont History

Lemont is a diverse town with a rich history. It was settled in 1836 (making it one of the oldest communities in Northeaster IL) and the attraction was a combination of the waterways and the stone quarries that existed at the time. The village resides by the Sanitary & Ship Canal, The Des Plaines River and the Illinois and Michigan Canal. Lemont was incorporated in 1873.   Lemont’s motto is “Village of Faith”, and Lemont has many churches, including the The Old Stone Church that was built in 1861 and is the oldest building in the village and is listed on the National Register of Historic places.  It is currently a museum.
