creamery ice cream store in homer glen

There have been rumors of selling off the Creamery ice cream stores for a few years.  We were even thinking they might close down.  It is now official that the chain will be put up for auction starting at $2,500,000 for every store as a package.  However, individual store sales will be considered.

Rainbow Cones

When we moved to the Homer Glen/Orland Park area we were excited to hear that we only had to drive a few minutes to get Rainbow cones.  We didn't have to drive all the way to Western Ave. in Chicago to get them.

A rainbow cone has a combination of (from the bottom up) chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House (named after The Palmer House in Chicago & is New York cherry with walnuts), pistachio and topped off with orange sherbet.  They don't

One of Chicago's most well known pieces of real estate, the Willis Tower, is on the market.  It is supposedly up for $1,500,000,000.  It was purchased from Sears in Willis Tower is one of Chicago's most popular piece of real estate2004 for $841,000,000 and was back on the market in 2011 but had no buyers.  It is expected to sell for around one billion dollars in today's more robust commercial market and it won't be surprising if the buyer is not from the United States.

About The Willis Tower

Let's get this out of the way first.  Do you still call it Sears Tower?  I do.  In fact, one of my best friends used to work there when she worked at Sears Corporate offices in the building.  She had an office fit for an executive and she was an administrative assistant.  I think she gained weight there because they'd have

Oak Lawn Metra train depot

I've been reading and posting a lot of lists lately.   Most national lists only name big metropolitan cities.  However, we've had two southwest suburbs on a couple great lists, both put out by Money Magazine.  Orland Park was on the list of 100 of the best places to live in the U.S. and Tinley Park appeared as one of the best cities to raise a family in.

The Top Five Cities for Public Transportation Are...

  1. New York with a transit score of 81
  2. San Francisco at 80
  3. Boston at 75
  4. Washington D.C. at 70
  5. Philadelphia at 67

The above cities are the best to go car-less.  Were you expecting to see Chicago?  Chicago was under Philadelphia at a score of 65, making it the sixth best U.S. cities for public transit.  I've sold a few condos

Real Estate Portals

old town real estateRealtor.com used to be the #1 site for national real estate searches, but I believe it has been overtaken by Zillow and possibly a couple other real estate portals.  Of course, we always suggest using a local real estate site such as this one for the most accurate, updated listings, such as our Orland Park real estate page.

What many people don't know is that websites like Zillow do not always have accurate information.  Even when an agent marks their listings as Sold they sometimes pop up again as Active listings at no fault of the listing agent.

Zillow and some other large real estate portals are also showing properties that are not for sale.  Zillow began what real estate professionals feel is a controversial practice of

Every once in a while I'll find something fascinating enough to share, and I'm pretty picky about what I put on my blog. Although this blog is more about the southwest suburbs of Chicago, you can get to Chicago's Loop in minutes from many of our locations via car, bus or train. The south suburbs offer the best bang for your real estate buck, with prices for all starting from extremely affordable condos to million+ dollar estates. All offering access to downtown Chicago with suburban living.

This video blew my mind. There's something so surreal about timelapse videos. This was created by Max Wilson and took a very long time. Max shot over 200,000 exposures and he has a job and a family. Take a few minutes to read his explanation.

It's a little long

homer glen halloweenHalloween is my favorite holiday. I've always loved dressing up and I've even gone home and changed costumes and went out again (when I was about 12). I think I only did that once.

Now I set time aside to accompany my son and my three grandchildren. My granddaughter and I drive to his house and we join the two grandsons and go trick or treating at the Homer Glen homes in my son's subdivision. It's a fun and friendly area where people are out with their costumed dogs and depending on the weather they might be sitting in their lawn chairs with a little something for the adults. It's chilly today so I'm not sure how many people will be sitting around.

I cleared my calendar for today and I find it interesting that I'm not getting a lot of e-mails or

The New Invaders to play Taste of Orland Park

You might have seen The New Invaders at The Taste of Orland Park back in 2005, but the band is different today. Jay Goeppner is the new lead singer and there has been a recent addition of Rik Mallin on keyboards. Rik is singer Melody Mallin's Dad! Rik has been in different bands, the most recent was The Runaways.

Jay Goeppner has brought new life to this 60's-early 70's rock band. Jay still performs with the Beatle Brothers and was with Instant Karma Band. He has played with many other bands, including back-up for Cheap Trick. Look for Jay's bio on The New Invaders website to see all of the famous people Jay has worked with.

The band will be playing on Sunday, the 7th, at 4:00-6:00, opening for American English. Come early to see both acts. Taste

celebrating homer glen 10th anniversaryIf you missed the 10th anniversary festival of Homer Glen's incorporation, you missed a great time!  I went last Friday night to see my husband's band play, The New Invaders. I thought it was great that the village tried to get entertainment from the "locals."  We live in Homer Glen (with an Orland Park address) and that is one reason The New Invaders were hired.  The carnival was big, there was food, music and activities, making this Homer Glen's biggest festival to date.  Our friend owns Chesdan's Restaurant and was one of the sponsors.

Homer Glen is Chicago's Youngest Subdivision

The village of Homer Glen is the newest Chicago subdivision and is located in the northeast corner of Will County.  Village officials would love Homer Glen to become a
